Blind Cleaning Oxford

A clear brief for every slat and panel.

Fabric panels, timber slats, metal Venetians and honeycomb cells need different care. Tell us the blind types, window count and access details. A useful quote addresses the material and fittings as well as visible dust, including any removal or refitting arrangements.

START WITH THE DETAILS

Different blinds need different care.

A roller blind may have coated fabric, a Roman blind may contain rods and lining, and timber slats should not be treated like aluminium. Labels and photos help where the material is uncertain. Fabric can have a decorative face and different backing, so show both if they are accessible without taking the blind apart.

Inspect operating parts as well as surfaces. Tangled cords, loose brackets and bent slats are repair concerns. Explain blinds that will not raise or lower properly. Age can weaken fabric and fittings, so the clean should be planned around their condition. Do not force a stiff mechanism or assume a spray suitable for one blind fits all types.

PLAN THE WORK

Put type and access in the enquiry.

Describe every style separately. The quote should name surfaces, method and handling arrangements, rather than treating a blind count as a complete description of the work.

Blind style

List Venetian, roller, Roman, vertical or other designs. Share material and manufacturer guidance where available, and identify different styles in the same room.

Faces and edges

Explain dust, kitchen grease and local marks. Say whether both sides are requested and what can be reached without unsafe access.

Rails and mechanisms

Show cords, brackets and operating problems. Repairing broken parts is separate from cleaning; flag anything fragile before it is handled.

Height and removal

Describe bay windows, high fittings and obstacles. Confirm whether removal is proposed and who is responsible for handling and refitting.

HOW IT WORKS

From material check to fitting details.

Identify the surfaces

Face, backing and mechanisms are considered together. Manufacturer restrictions guide the approach; an uncertain material needs discussion before products are selected.

Agree cleaning and handling

Ask which surfaces are covered and whether work happens in place. If removal is needed, confirm fittings, identification and refitting arrangements before the appointment.

Discuss operation afterwards

Ask about drying where relevant and when the blind can be closed or lowered. Use material-specific guidance rather than one household product across every blind style.

BEFORE THE VISIT

Clear the window. Leave the mechanism alone.

Clear the sill and nearby objects. Leave the blind fitted until handling is agreed. Send an overall picture and close views of material and controls. If a bracket is loose or access is awkward, include it in the photos without removing it.

Explain broken, stiff or difficult-to-raise blinds. Do not force operation for preparation. Keep cords in their secured arrangement and flag child-safety fittings. Move light furniture where practical, but do not create unsafe access to a high window.

Keep different window coverings separate in your list. A kitchen Venetian may have grease on its slats, while a bedroom roller has a fabric mark and an office vertical has several damaged vanes. Describing each location makes the intended work easier to review.

For motorised blinds, identify the model and controls where known. Do not disconnect or alter the system to prepare for cleaning. Ask how reachable surfaces can be addressed without treating the motor or electrical components as part of an ordinary cleaning appointment.

Photograph each blind lowered as far as it normally operates, without forcing it. A whole-window view in natural daylight shows width, length and nearby obstacles more clearly than a close image of one slat.

  • List types and approximate dimensions.
  • Share labels and close material photos.
  • Flag stiff mechanisms or weak fittings.
  • Confirm removal and refitting if proposed.

PRICES & QUOTATIONS

A quotation for each blind type.

Send the number, style, dimensions and access photos. Several small rollers differ from one wide set of closely spaced slats. Grease, delicate fabric and high windows can alter the work, so show the actual condition rather than describing everything as a standard blind.

Confirm faces, rails and fittings in the quote. Ask whether removal and refitting are included and how any drying is arranged. Curtains, glass, frames and sills are separate requests; name them if you want a combined enquiry.

GOOD TO KNOW

Before you book.

Questions about blind style, faces and edges.

Can timber blinds be washed?

Wood and its finish can have moisture restrictions. Share manufacturer guidance and ask about a suitable method. Do not soak or spray slats as preparation.

Must the blinds be removed?

This depends on style, access and proposed treatment. Confirm before taking them down. Handling and refitting should be clearly covered if removal is required.

Can Roman blinds be cleaned?

Send fabric, lining and label photos with dimensions. Roman blinds may contain rods and layered materials. Ask about suitability rather than treating them as a simple washable curtain.

Will cleaning straighten slats?

Bent slats, broken cords and loose brackets are repairs. Flag them before booking so cleaning can be planned around condition. Do not expect cleaning to correct operation.

Is the window included?

Request glass, frames and sills separately. A blind quotation may cover the covering alone. Naming additional work early avoids assuming the whole window area is included.
