SPECIALIST CLEANING · OXFORD
Start with the leather finish.
Leather seating needs its own care plan. Finish, manufacturer guidance and existing wear matter as much as visible marks. Send photographs and any care information so treatment can be discussed for your sofa without treating every leather surface as though it were the same.

START WITH THE DETAILS
Coated leather may tolerate care unsuitable for aniline leather, nubuck or suede. Appearance alone does not always identify the finish. Share a label or purchase description and say whether any panels are imitation leather. Mixed upholstery requires consideration of each material, including fabric sections or decorative trims. A product used successfully on one chair does not establish suitability for another.
Look for cracking, peeling, faded areas and worn colour along arms or seat edges. These differ from accumulated dirt. Explain earlier cleaners, conditioners and repair creams, particularly where they changed sheen or feel. Separate cleaning from colour restoration and repairs in the quotation. Photographs in natural light help show both the finish and the condition clearly.

PLAN THE WORK
Ask for the actual panels and items to be named in the quote. The proposed care should fit the leather finish and manufacturer guidance, with damage and restoration kept separate.
Share labels, finish and care instructions. Mention aniline, nubuck, suede or mixed panels where known; say when information is uncertain rather than guessing.
List contact areas and describe greasy, dark or dull patches. Their cause should be assessed rather than assumed from appearance alone.
Point out scratches, cracks, flaking and worn colour. Cleaning does not rebuild a damaged finish, so these concerns require their own assessment.
Ask what cleaning and finishing steps are proposed. Include chairs and stools separately, along with every care product already applied.
HOW IT WORKS
Material and finish establish the starting point. Uncertainty should be discussed before selecting a product. Show areas that have different texture, coating or previous repairs.
Discuss compatibility, any discreet test and requested panels. Ask whether a finishing product is proposed and how it fits the manufacturer guidance. More product is not always better.
Ask when seating can be used and how it should be maintained. Avoid immediately applying another conditioner without checking compatibility with the treatment already used.

BEFORE THE VISIT
Remove throws and personal items. Photograph the whole sofa and worn arms, seat edges or panels with a different appearance. Keep labels and purchase information available. Leave cushions fitted so their condition and construction are visible.
Do not add household sprays, oils or a new leather cream shortly before the visit. Tell the team what has already been used. Clear space to inspect the furniture and discuss moving heavy seating if rear panels are included. Flag unstable legs and recliner mechanisms.
Light-coloured seating can show dye transfer from clothing as well as dirt. Describe the mark and how it appeared, including any cleaner used afterwards. Its cause matters; repeated rubbing can make an existing surface problem harder to assess.
Take care with mixed materials. A recliner may have leather on contact areas and another material on side or back panels. Share that information where known, and ask how the proposed work accounts for the differences rather than assuming the entire piece has one finish.
PRICES & QUOTATIONS
Send item size, material information, photos and requested panels for a leather sofa quote. Include a chaise, recliner and matching stools. Finish and condition influence the assessment; seat count alone does not explain the work or limitations.
Ask the quote to distinguish cleaning from conditioning, restoration or repairs. Confirm which visible panels are included, the care guidance and access requirements. If the finish is uncertain, say so at the beginning so suitability can be discussed before a price is agreed.

GOOD TO KNOW
Questions about leather type, seats, arms and headrests.
Leather finishes have different requirements from fabric. A method suitable for upholstery is not automatically appropriate. Identify the material so assessment and quotation address leather specifically.
Peeling and flaking are damage to a surface or coating. Cleaning cannot rebuild it. Share photos and discuss repair separately from dirt removal when considering the sofa’s condition.
This depends on leather type and manufacturer guidance. Ask what finishing care is proposed and why. An unsuitable product can change appearance or feel; additional conditioner is not automatically useful.
Send labels, purchase details and close photos in daylight. State that it is uncertain rather than guessing. More information or an assessment may be needed before agreeing treatment.
Include it with its own label and photos. A matching chair may have different wear or replacement panels even when bought as a set. Ask for both pieces in the quotation.
